About Our Tournaments

The Singles Championship and Doubles Championship are straight knockout and random draw. This season, all matches in the Singles Championship are best of five, 501, and all matches in the doubles championship are best of five, 601. Closest to the bull is used to determine the player throwing first in the Singles Championship and a coin toss is used to determine the player throwing first in the Doubles Championship.

The Harry Conaty Memorial Trophy this season will be a straight knockout competition this season. Closest to the bull is used to determine the player throwing first in this competition. The competition is a UEFA Champions League style competition and has the following player qualification criteria:

  • Reigning Harry Contay Trophy Champion.
  • Reigning Singles Championship Champion.
  • A qualifier from each Central Darts team.
  • A previously specified number of highest ranked players at the cut off date.

Should there be any withdrawals on the night of the competition, the highest ranked players not yet qualified will take their place if the withdrawn player has qualified by virtue of winning a major or being a ranked qualifier. If the withdrawn player is a team qualifier, they can be replaced by another member of their team or, if none of the team is present, the highest ranked player not yet qualified. The draw for the Harry Conaty Memorial Trophy is done on the night.

The Drew West Trophy and Brian Spicer Trophy are secondary and tertiary level competitions to complement the Harry Conaty Memorial Trophy, much in the style of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League. The tournaments will be made up of the highest ranked individual from each team outside the top 40 and top 70 of the league rankings respectively. Any individual already qualified for the Harry Conaty Memorial Trophy will also not be eligible. Closest to the bull is used to determine the player throwing first in this competition.

The 3-a-Side Knockout is a straight knockout tournament. Squads can be as many players as the team wishes, but the three players who take part in each individual match can only be changed in between rounds. A coin toss is used to determine the player throwing first in this competition.

Each match for the 3-a-side is made up of three best of three doubles 601 games, three best of three singles 501 games and a 1001 triples game. Players 1 and 2 play the first doubles, 1 and 3 play the second doubles and 2 and 3 play the third doubles.

The team captain chooses the order of their three and line-up choices are exchanged at the coin toss. The team that wins the coin toss throws first in matches 1, 3, 5 and 7. The draw for this competition is done at a league meeting and the entry for this tournament is free. Squads for this competition need to be submitted before the first mid season league meeting.

The Team Knockout Cup is the only competition that is double to start. Matches are 4-a-side, best of 5 legs, 1001. The captain of each team chooses their order and can also substitute a player in after each leg if they so choose. Once a player has been substituted out, they cannot be substituted back in again during that particular game. The draw for the 4-a-side team knockout cup is done on the night of the competition, with a random draw before each round, and the entry for this tournament is automatic for every team. A coin toss is used to determine the player throwing first in this competition.

Finals and Presentation Night, the biggest and most prestigious event of the season, will involve the finals of the Team Knockout Cup then the final of the Doubles Championship and will finish with the final of the Singles Championship. This is a live streamed event.

Central Darts opens each new year with the mid-season Memorial Charity Night, which is an open blind doubles competition raising money for a different charitable cause each year, which is decided at the league opening meeting. This event is also the yearly opportunity to remember all the players who have participated in the Central Darts League who have passed on, with a particular focus each year on those who passed on since the previous Memorial Charity Night.

The Central Darts League is also committed to supporting the Bobby Bourn Memorial Trophy, which is a charity pairs darts competition hosted and run by the Whitley Bay and Cullercoats Darts League. The Central Darts League reserves a place for this tournament in the pre-season calendar each year. The tournament takes place on the second Friday of August each year. The Whitley Bay and Cullercoats Darts League likewise supports the Central Darts Memorial Charity Night each year.
